Breaking diet rules with a threesome (guest blog post)

I know, I know. A threesome??? Huh?? Wait, before you leave and declare me a total pervert, read on…

I met the amazing and talented Camy Kennedy earlier in 2016 at a fitness retreat. We were roomies and we instantly hit it off. Her sassy and straightforward attitude went hand-in-hand with mine 🙂

We have the same approach when it comes to nutrition and dieting so it was a natural fit to have her share some of her insights here on my blog today!

Plus, she has a pretty badass freebie cookbook you need to get your hands on. Good stuff!

Take it away Camy…

diane-and-camy-flexing“Diane let me take over her blog today, which it awesome because I like living the Goddess life and I also like breaking the rules! So today, I’m going to teach you ladies how to break the nutrition rules and get away with it.

If you are like me, you’ve probably tried to diet 100x and follow a meal plan or follow a “rule” to cut out certain food groups or sugar, fats, carbs, etc. It’s all been done, and I’ve done most of these diets too…

They promise great results, and yes, I did see great results with some of the diets that I was on, but what happened after the 12 weeks, is that I would gain 15-20 pounds back.

In 2013, after a back injury I gained 25lbs after training super hard for a fitness competition, and I was out for almost 4 months from the gym. It was a miserable time, and I ate my feelings.

But once I got so frustrated with myself about this dieting mentality, I was determined to find a better, balanced way that would be sustainable for my lifestyle. And I took the next year in the gym getting my strength back, and coming up with awesome ways to break the nutrition rules and get away with it.

I ended up taking the dieting rules and breaking every one of them and making them fit into my lifestyle — and let me tell you, girl, my lifestyle is about carbs, chocolate, waffles and cookies.

I’m sharing with you 3 of the top “dieting rules” and my #rulebreakerforlife secrets on how to break them and get away with it.

But let me warn you, breaking the rules takes courage, and it takes a commitment to finding out what works for you and your body. If you are looking for a quick fix, this is not it. It’s about finding out what is really important to you, what you really enjoy, and how you want to live your life.

Welcome to being a #rulebreakerforlife! Here are the rules that we are going to break together…

Rule #1: You have to eat a low carb diet to lose weight.

So how can we get away with eating carbs lots of them and still reach our weight loss or fat loss goals? Well it’s this pretty cool thing I call the Food Threesome.

It works because it’s helping to keep your blood sugar stable and keep your body from storing carbs as fat. Here’s the deal. When you eat any carbohydrate rich food by itself, it almost immediately is dumped into the bloodstream.

So in order to eat carbs and maintain or reduce your bodyfat, it helps tremendously to pair a protein and a small amount of fat with each meal every 3-4 hours.camys-food-threesome

Here’s what it looks like. Use the image to help you with portions when creating your Food Threesome.

Protein helps slow the digestion of carbs, and fats slow the actual digestion process.

In this way we are having our carbs and reducing the impact carbs are having on blood sugar and fat retention!

Rule #2: You can’t have sweets and still reach your goals.

First off, sugar and sweets are awesome. I love cookies, cakes, pies, brownies, waffles, pancakes and anything else with sugar. So. How can we have our cookies and eat them too?

Let’s go back to how we found a way out of rule #1. Use the Food Threesome. This could look like one of two things:

1.) Add some protein into the meal with your sweets, for example, a protein shake with your cookies, or some egg whites with your pancakes. There you did it!

2). My favorite is to use whey protein powder to bake protein cookies, muffins, cakes and desserts! My friend Sarah Wilkins has a protein sweets cookbook that will help you with this! Done an
d done. Find it on Amazon here

Rule #3: You have to spend all day food prepping.

Back in 2013, I decided to break the food prep rules. I didn’t want to do it anymore!

If I’m feeling super lazy I will go to the store and get pre-prepared and cooked foods from the salad bar at Whole Foods or Earth Fare.

There are many options for organic frozen foods, as well as delivery from great restaurants like Zoe’s Kitchen. If you have a family to cook for, the crock pot is an amazing tool!

I always have bars and shakes and high protein snacks around the house and I’m way less stressed about what I can have and when.

It’s really about getting the highest quality food and supplements you can find and making it work for your lifestyle.

I have a Clean & Easy Cookbook with my top 10 super easy recipes that take little time, thought or energy. You can get it by heading over to my website and signing up to get it: camykennedy.com

These are some tips you can use right now, today, to implement to your guilt-free non-dieting lifestyle. Because I believe life is too short to hate yourself and judge yourself for what you eat. The more love you have for your body, the better things you will put in, but let’s be honest, sometimes we just want to eat Oreos, and that’s okay!
