How long have you been pole dancing at Venus Pole Fitness? My first time was in 2008 at the Turlock studio. I took a Pole 101 class and loved it. Came back in 2011 to take some pole and Zumba classes. Officially back in November 2012 and started the Elite Program in February 2013.

Have you undergone a transformation (physically, emotionally or both!)?
The biggest transformation has been the emotional/ mental one, due to the fact that I am much happier, able to handle stress better and feel healthy. Physically I’ve noticed a change in muscle tone. Nothing too drastic but definitely firming up.



Did you have any previous dance or fitness training before starting pole?
I took dance lessons from the age of 7 up through high-school. I’ve always been physically active. I was a physical fitness instructor for 11 years, teaching everything from Aquatic, sculpting, step, kick-boxing, Pilates and some Zumba.

What made you decide to take classes?
I had stopped exercising when I took on a full time job in 2008. I hated the way I felt, and now that I’m in my 50’s, I really started to notice the difference in my body. Let’s just say I hated my tush and back of thighs being one in the same. I don’t have much of a tush to begin with, but I accept what God gave me.

Favorite class and why?

I love every class I’ve ever taken. The Boot Camp challenges me to push myself hard and I love it. The Pole classes are SO much fun. Just wish I had more time to take more classes. I never thought I’d be pole dancing in my 50’s!

What is it that you LOVE about Venus?
A better question would be “What DON’T I like about Venus?” I love the instructors, my fellow “goddesses”, the atmosphere in the studio, and the classes themselves. I have worked out at lots of gyms and never before have found the combination of positive energy and warmth, quality instruction, and encouragement from everyone I’ve met!!

Platforms, barefeet or legwarmers?
Definitely platforms. They look great and make your legs look great. I remember the first time I put on a pair and tried to do a sexy walk. I thought I was going to break an ankle. 🙂 At times I like to be barefoot if I’m learning something new.

What are you currently working on technically?
I am trying to overcome my intimidation of the vertical moves. I still haven’t mastered anything. It’s my goal to be able to do inversion moves, first the “inverted V”, but try as I might, still can’t do it. I get sweaty palms and feet when I take those classes. I watch the other ladies in awe, and think to myself, “I want to be like them when I grow up”.

What are you working on artistically?
I am working on perfecting everything I’ve learned, in order to transition from one move to another with gracefulness and proper form.

Favorite song to pole dance to?
“We Belong Together”/ Mariah Carey and “Feelin Love”/ Paula Cole

What 3 songs would be featured on the soundtrack to YOUR life?

Relaxing with a good book (preferably “poolside”) AND Pinning to my Pinterest boards (mostly recipes)

Final Question: Any inspirational advice you would like to share with new polers?
I would tell any woman how much fun it is. Personally I love pole dancing for its beauty. I love to dance, and it is such a beautiful form of dancing. It is also an incredible way to get in shape, as it helps with your strength, flexibility and so much more. Most of all, everyone should know that you don’t have to fall within a certain age group or be a certain size to enjoy it. It is for EVERY woman. Live your life to the fullest and enjoy something you’ve never done before. Guarantee you’ll love it!!
